Mexico

Mexico

"The Casa de Moneda de México is the national currency of Mexico and the oldest in America. The Mexican Mint was founded in 1535 by the Spanish Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza to create the first currency of the Americas. The Mint's eight genuine silver coins and its successor coins circulated widely in the Americas and Asia until the 19th century and became the basis for modern national coinage in many countries.

Since 1983, the coins have been produced only in San Luis Potosí. The headquarters is currently the Museo Nacional de las Culturas in Mexico City. The Bank of Mexico is the main customer of the Mint."
